Auga-Akoko was on Friday the centre of political attention as prominent leaders, traditional rulers and party faithful converged to celebrate the 60th birthday of Hon. Prince Bode Obanla.
Speaking as Chairman of the Day, the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, said the celebration was more than a birthday, describing it as a tribute to character, loyalty and enduring relationships.
Poroye, who disclosed that he has enjoyed a close friendship with the celebrant for over 20 years, stressed the importance of human relationships beyond politics.
“Anyone who does not value relationships does not understand life. No matter the height you attain, relationships matter. Politics should never destroy friendships because interests may change, but relationships should endure,” he said.
He added that Hon. Obanla’s life exemplifies consistency, trust and respect across political divides, remarking that the diverse gathering at the event reflected the quality of the man being celebrated.
Earlier, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, described Obanla as a man of principle and integrity, whose commitment has strengthened the party since his defection.
Also speaking, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Victor Olabimtan, offered prayers for long life and continued relevance for the celebrant.
A goodwill message from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, delivered by the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, described Obanla as a trusted friend and confidant, with prayers that his latter years would be greater than the former.
The event drew political leaders across party lines, traditional rulers and other dignitaries, further reinforcing Hon. Bode Obanla’s wide acceptance as he marks six decades of life and service.
